Expecting a baby and wondering how to reduce barking? These simple changes can help quiet your pup down immediately with minimal effort.
Block visuals:
- Window film on doors or windows
- Blinds or curtains pulled shut – although persistent dogs may nudge them to the side
- Gates to block access to the areas of the house where dog has the most reactions
- Cover any gates that your dog can see through

Muffle exterior sounds:
- Sound machine placed near the areas where the dog has the most reactions to exterior noises (front door, front windows, etc)
- TV or radio playing
- Floor fan on high
Other changes:
- Disable the doorbell
- Sign on the doors asking visitors not to knock, and to text instead. No response means you are not accepting visitors.
- Make a note in delivery apps for folks dropping off packages – “please do NOT to knock or ring the doorbell; place items in X spot.”
- Place a package drop box away from the house for dogs who are the most reactive to deliveries.
